Red Oak Bookcase with Minibar & Storage

This bookcase built-in is custom-sized to fit the client’s space. Made out of red oak, this bookcase stands from floor-to-ceiling with a large, integrated corner cabinet for locked storage.

Smaller, notable details include hidden-locked storage under a cigar humidor, crown molding, and varying shelf heights for different book sizes.

The bookcase doubles as a minibar with a set of locked lower storage cabinets (lower doors in progress - not shown).

Finer details are what make this cabinet fit for the study of even the most particular gentlemen. For example, a hidden-lock humidor compartment with continuous grain, flush hinges, and invisible seams. Or locked lower cabinets (doors in progress) which serve as a discreet minibar and storage area. Even the presence of wrap-around trim molding provides a classic, fine furniture-grade experience.

For the finish, an intermediate layer of special sealer was added before a durable top coat for added luster and to highlight the wood grain.

Some precision-based aspects of this project are not visible in photos. For example, it was built around a baseboard heating pipe that wraps around the room. The floors were not level and had a significant slope of 1/2” over a 3 ft span.

The end result speaks for itself. A bookcase fit for James Bond himself, don’t you think?
